What The Gift Pilot is

The Gift Pilot is a gift recommendation tool. We help you decide what to give by asking a few questions and surfacing ideas matched to your answers, then linking you out to third-party retailers. We don't sell products, hold inventory, or process payments.

Information you provide

When you use the Gift Finder, Gift Check, contact form, corporate enquiry form, or sign up for optional reminders, you may give us details such as the recipient's age range, interests, your budget, occasion, your name, email, and the contents of any message you send. We use this to generate recommendations or to respond to you.

Photo and image uploads (Gift Check)

Gift Check may let you upload an image of a gift idea so we can give you a sanity check. Images are used only to produce that response. We don't sell uploaded images and we don't use them to identify individuals.

How recommendations are generated

Recommendations come from a deterministic scoring system based on the answers you provide (recipient, occasion, budget, style, interests, timing). There is no profile being built about you in the background.

Affiliate links and sponsored placements

Some outbound retailer links are affiliate links — if you buy something through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Some items are sponsored and are clearly labelled. Sponsorship doesn't change whether a gift fits your answers — see our Disclosure.

Analytics and cookies

We use lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages and tools are useful. This may involve cookies or similar technologies and may record information such as the pages you visit, your approximate region, device type, and referring source. We don't use this to identify you personally.

Email and contact communications

If you email us or submit a form, we use your details only to respond. If you opt in to reminders, we use your email only for the reminder you asked for. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details at any time.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as needed to run the service, respond to you, meet legal obligations, or improve recommendations. You can ask us to delete information you've provided.

Third-party retailers and outbound links

When you click through to a retailer, you leave The Gift Pilot. That retailer's own privacy policy and terms apply. We don't control what they collect or how they use it.

Children's privacy

The Gift Pilot is intended for adults choosing gifts. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Australian privacy context

The Gift Pilot is operated from Australia. We aim to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you're outside Australia, your information may be processed in Australia or by service providers in other countries.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information you've given us, or to stop contacting you. Email us via the contact page and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
